Yanni makes a triumphant return with the addition of "voices." For the first time ever, new Vocal sensations Nathan Pacheco, Leslie Mills, Ender Thomas and Chloe lend their voices and lyrics to Yanni's beloved classics and new songs. Over a 25-year career, composer Yanni has proven he can write epic instrumental music that merges the worlds of classical, grand pop, and light jazz. With his new CD, Voices. Sometimes certain music stirs the soul and arouses feelings deep inside that you had forgotten existed. YANNI VOICES, one of Yanni's newest collaborations fits into this category. With Yanni's sweeping melodies combined with the powerful and passionate Vocals sung by four young singers. Songs like "The Keeper," "Never Leave The Sun" and "Before the Night Ends" all have a beautiful arrangement complemented by a lovely female Vocal, and "Our Days" has a rich, tonal Middle Eastern slant to its melody that grabs you, as does "Ritual De Amor (Desire)." While the lyrics on some of these tracks leave a little to be desired and are overly sentimental, they do manage to convey their intended emotions. The highlight is "Mas Alia," as the Yanni sound audiences have come to know works well here with the Spanish-language Vocals. "Unico Amore" is also beautiful, with the very talented Nathan Pacheco lending a hand.
Listen again to Yanni's melodies, composed over an incomparable 22-year career, and it becomes clear: The man's music was meant to be sung. Revered for his sweeping symphonic pieces and intimate keyboard airs, Yanni long resisted having Vocalists reinterpret his music with lyrics. That is, until now with his premiere Disney Pearl album, "Yanni Voices." More than two years in the making, "Voices" is without question Yanni's most ambitious project yet.
