The Bridge : Melanie Fiona
2009 release from the Canadian R&B singer/songwriter. Melanie's music is an eclectic yet glossy mix of tributes to the past and contemporary R&B. Even before she released an album, she impressed Kanye West enough to be invited to be the opening act during Kanye's 2008 European tour! Universal. The producers went for a certain throwback sound in producing this thematic album. The songs work well with her voice. Most of the tunes sound very much like nu-school Motown/Supremes tracks which lends cohesion but given the failure of a similarly presented album by Solange Knowles in the US. Favorites track on the album "You Stop My Heart" meshes the backing vocals with her voice brilliantly. It's almost as though you're listening to an R&B lullaby.
It's a good debut - it displays her vocal range and has a few memorable tracks, namely: GIVE IT TO ME RIGHT, G.A.M. (GROWN ASS MAN - only released on the import version), IT KILLS ME, BANG BANG, PRICELESS, MONDAY MORNING & YOU STOP MY HEART.
