Ancient Greek Music and Instruments
The ancient Greek music has a special place among the musical cultures of antiquity. The main reason for this is certainly the fact that the historical evidence and sources for the study of ancient Greek musical culture is more than that of any other musical culture of antiquity.
In the early '50s the Greek music, and certainly what you might hear from the greek music radio and film was the popular (based on bouzouki music) with sounds that brought with them from the Greek Minor Asia in the 1920s by both Greek and foreign light music, with particular sounds and European influence.
The musical system of the ancient Greeks developed gradually. Originally it was probably pentatoniko, ie a scale was only 5 steps. By adding a further 2 sounds in the scale in the 8th century. Became eptatoniko which developed the system DIATONIKO perfect. The tonal system of ancient Greece was the basis of the tonal system of modern times until the present day.
As the lyre was the main musical instrument of the ancient Greeks, music system based on this:
  • The names of the notes correspond to the names of the strings
  • The scales was something like the strings in the grip of the institution
  • The scales derived from 2 groups of 4 strings called "tetrachords".
Ancient Greek Music Instruments:
Harp: The harp as an instrument known in Greece from a very distant time, but the name (the term) was unknown. The Greeks called the body triangle from a triangular shape.

Lyres - Guitars: The lyres - guitars are with the flutes of the most popular instruments in ancient Greece. Their origin is from Mesopotamia. Triangulum: The Triangulum is a small knee harp with many strings. The encounter in the Middle East from the 3rd millennium BC In Greece witnessed the Cycladic culture.
Pandoura: Pandoura, pandouris or stringed, long sleeve, speaker and 3 strings like flute played with a key. Rarely used in Greece and knew by then that is not Greek but Assyrian origin.
