Italian Eritrea was the first colony of the Kingdom of Italy in Africa. It was officially created in 1890 and revoked in 1947. The colony of Eritrea was established by Italy in 1890 culminated a process of colonization that began in 1869 directly after the opening of the Suez Canal.
