The Music of Eritrea
Italian Eritrea was the first colony of the Kingdom of Italy in Africa. It was officially created in 1890 and revoked in 1947. The colony of Eritrea was established by Italy in 1890 culminated a process of colonization that began in 1869 directly after the opening of the Suez Canal. The Italian company bought Rubattino navigation Assab Bay about sultans, to build a port services for commercial fleet. On March 10, 1882, the Italian government bought the land from Assab to the Italian company. Gradually, Italian forces were conquering the entire coast to occupy the port city of Massawa on February 5, 1885.

The Italian Eritrea became the first colony of the Kingdom of Italy in Africa and received a large colony of Italians, who gave a huge development. In the census of 1939 in Eritrea had almost 100,000 Italians in a total population of one million inhabitants, the capital Asmara the center of architectural and industrial development of the first order in Africa.

Asmara became the capital of Eritrea in 1900, replacing Massawa, mainly for its cool climate and that is to more than 2,200 meters above sea level.

Asmara was populated since the beginning of the twentieth century by a large Italian colony, the city looked for the typical Italian Fascism. Asmara is now known worldwide for its Art Deco style architecture: the United Nations consider it a "World Heritage Center".

Modern music of Eritrea is characterized by unique rhythms that are unmatched in the rest of the continent.
